Department of Environmental Health Engineering
Established in the year 1998 with funding support from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The department offers full-scale advisory solutions combined with training programs that serve different industrial sectors. It has developed some of India’s most advanced capacities for public health research and academic training.

The department has a complete range of modern laboratory infrastructure, together with sophisticated air sampling tools and analytic instruments, alongside its bio-specimen repository, which enables field research and training operations. Several faculty members have undergone training under the international training in occupation and environmental health program specializing in exposure assessment, environmental epidemiology, global burden of disease, occupational medicine, geographical information systems, industrial hygiene, environmental health and safety, biostatistics and epidemiology.
Dr. Kalpana Balakrishnan has been consistently ranked among the top 2% of scientists in the field of General and Internal Medicine in the annual global ranking study being conducted by Stanford University. This reflects the multidisciplinary impact of the department’s research initiatives.
